Summary

Provides all areas of assigned facility with equipment/supplies necessary for optimal patient care.  Ensures that all patient care equipment/supplies comply with Infection Control guidelines. Maintains inventory and delivers appropriate equipment/supplies to necessary departments/areas of the hospital to adequately utilization all resources.  Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

Enrolled in a Respiratory Therapy program that is approved by the CAAHEP or CoARC as a second year student in good standing.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to understand moderately complex written materials, such as patient records.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with Associates, Physicians, and other outside professionals.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects while maintain control of workflow.
  • Ability to perform technical skills as required with disassembly/re-assembly of equipment/supplies.
  • Ability to understand principles and implement basic procedures of infection control and aseptic technique.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and exercise initiative and independent judgment once technical training has been completed.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to emergency or critical situations.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with patients and families in a professional manner.
  • Must be competent to perform all job functions by the end of orientation.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Monitors, inventories, and restocks equipment/supplies throughout the hospital as needed.   
  • Maintains PAR levels to ensure that adequate inventory of sterile and unsterile supplies are readily available.  
  • Fills inventory supply requisitions and delivers supplies.  
  • Participates in annual physical inventory. 
  • Processes returned items appropriately.
  • Understands, applies, and supports departmental/hospital policies, procedures and standards.  
  • Performs general housekeeping functions. 
  • Maintains hospital, DNV and other quality control standards with subsequent records of sterilization procedures. 
  • Ensures safe operation of equipment. 
  • Maintains equipment and work area. 
  • Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factors.  
  • Performs quality control checks. 
     

Physical Requirements

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • Possible exposure to patient body fluids.
  • The physical requirements of this position are heavy work - exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The Associate may be required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services, general laborer, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection, etc.).
