Summary

The O&M Stationary Engineer is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the O&M building site by investigating and resolving complex problems related to cooling, heating, and pressure flow.  Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

REQUIRED:

High school graduate or equivalent.

Minimum of four (4) years experience inperational/maintenance and one (1) year high-pressure steam plant environment experience.

  • The following code licenses are required:
  • First Class Steam
  • First Class Refrigeration
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Must be able to pass a DOT background check based on work facility.
  • Must possess a high degree of skill and proficiency in all areas of general physical plant engineering operations and maintenance in the technical fields involved, which may be acquired through on-the-job training, supplemented by educational and vocational courses, or related experience.  
  • Must be knowledgeable of system operations, including emergency procedures.  Must be knowledgeable in electrical, electronics, plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, computerized monitoring and control systems, and other specialized equipment or control systems common to plant operations.  Knowledgeable of emergency procedures. 
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment.
  • Ability to organize and maintain control of work-flow.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Analyzes results from testing and treatment of all mechanical and generating equipment.
  • Repairs, adjusts, calibrates electrical and electronic control systems, electrical power distribution equipment, computer systems, pneumatic, hydraulic, refrigeration and steam systems.
  • Diagnoses trouble calls and determines appropriate action to be taken.
  • Updates procedures to reflect changes in codes and regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • Exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
  • Occasional travel outside hospital.
  • The Associate is subject to noise: there is occasionally sufficient noise to cause the Associate to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  • The Associate is subject to hazards: includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The Associate is subject to both environmental conditions:  activities occur inside and outside.
