Summary

Develops and implements high-level strategies and provides leadership and operational management for the transplant service line. Develops, communicates and implements the strategic plan to grow the program(s) in volume, breadth, and depth of services. Accountable for operations in a manner that ensures patient safety, meets or exceeds national quality standards, and is responsive to the needs of patients, their families, and the Medical Staff.  Ensures strong support for the academic mission associated with the service line. Other responsibilities include financial management, human resource management, and management of the revenue cycle in accordance with corporate policies and procedures, regulatory guidelines, and statutes. Supports research initiatives for the transplant service line. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

Master’s degree in health administration, business administration, or related field.

At least 5 years of direct management responsibility in a clinical setting with a preference for specific experience in a transplant service line.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of business principles and techniques of administration, market assessment, and management to include an in-depth understanding of the key business issues that exist in the health care industry, particularly related to physicians, medical schools, and medical education.
  • Knowledge of strategic and operational planning, health care economics, financial management, and decision support.
  • Strong skills in facilitation, influencing, problem solving, and negotiating with and between individuals and groups, particularly with physicians. Demonstrated ability to manage by influence in a consultative role that does not have direct authority.

Key Job Responsibilities

Provides leadership to achieve coordination of care delivery across the care continuum for a specific patient population.

  • Leads and facilitates efforts to coordinate multidisciplinary delivery of care that is patient- and family-centered and crosses inpatient and outpatient sites of care.
  • In collaboration with system leadership, will assist in facilitation and coordination of system wide initiatives to leverage strengths for the patient group served.

 

 Business Planning & Market Strategy:

  • Provides strong leadership and direction in establishing the service line as a recognized leader in solid organ transplantation, both regionally and nationally.
  • Develops and implements strategic plans for increased market share and volume growth of the service line including direct oversight of the Transplant Institute Outreach Program to dialysis centers and referring physicians.

 

Establishes, manages, and monitors performance targets:

  • Establishes and defines the metrics used to determine success and drive decisions for the service line(s).
  • Measures performance relative to national benchmarks.

 

Quality/ Regulatory

  • Ensures compliance with the regulatory guidelines and accrediting standards outlined by UNOS, CMS, and JCAHO and all other applicable bodies.
  • Demonstrates a clear understanding of regulations and/or accreditation standards applicable to the service line; anticipates the impact of proposed regulations and prepares contingent strategies.

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
