Summary

Responsible for the dissection and description of gross anatomic features of all surgical specimens, under the supervision of the attending pathologist. Performs postmortem examinations including external exams, in-situ organ inspection, evisceration, organ dissection and dictation of clinical findings. Works in conjunction with the histology team and pathologists to trouble shoot and maintain quality standards in the lab. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

  • Basic knowledge of human anatomy.
  • Understanding of safety, infection control and identify and correct conditions that affect employee safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Proficiency in Mircosoft Office Suite and laboratory software.
  • Ability to utilize the available time to organize and complete work within given deadlines.
  • Ability to design and conduct a systematic, objective and critical investigation.
  • Ability to formulate a sound decision using the available information.

  • Perform specialized procedures such as frozen sections and decalcification.
  • Photographs specimen samples as appropriate for use in instruction and documentation.

Physical Requirements

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
