Summary

Plans, develops, implements and directs the Advanced Practice Clinicians in the Adult Cardiac Institute.  Assists the Sr. Director in leading a team of APPs as well as managing the day to day operations of the adult cardiovascular service line.  Also responsible for providing direct health care services as an APP to cardiovascular patients. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

Education/Experience/Licensure

REQUIRED: Master’s degree or higher in a nursing specialty A minimum of 5+ years of progressive Advanced Practice experience required with demonstrated leadership and management skills

Registered Nurse with current license to practice professional nursing in the state of employment.

Advanced practice licensure/ certification as required by the state in which employed.

Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support.

Current DEA number.

National specialty certification as Nurse Practitioner

Key Job Responsibilities

Operations

  • Plans, develops, implements and directs the Advanced Practice Clinicians in the Adult Cardiac Institute. Develops and communicates goals, monitors goal achievement, and revises plans.
  • Facilitates a collaborative, interdisciplinary team practice model.
  • Manages staffing patterns, clinic & hospital process flow, hand-offs, and clinic coverage schedules.
  • Ensures accurate documentation in the EMR.
  • Monitors, evaluates, and documents outcomes of decisions and interventions.
  • Works with operations and finance leaders regarding budgeting, billing, productivity metrics, and coding audits.

Leadership

  • Provides leadership in development, implementation and evaluation of quality management programs/initiatives.
  • Participates in and supports APPs in continuous quality improvement initiatives evaluating the effectiveness of practices on patient outcomes and patient experience.
  • Participates and provides leadership to the APP governance committee related to development of policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, standards, education or research.
  • Anticipates emergent and future issues/changes and provides leadership and vision in short- and long-term planning; contributes to strategic planning for the service line.
  • Provides leadership in program development, implementation and evaluation.
  • Directs the activities of Associates reporting under the assigned areas of responsibility.  Monitors Associate performance and clarifies work expectations, assists with goal setting, and promotes cooperation among individuals and groups.  Develops and implements processes through orientation, training and education to ensure that the competence of all staff members is assessed, maintained, improved and demonstrated throughout their employment.

Development & Self-Governance

  • Provides consultation to APP staff, managers, physicians and other team members with the goal of an educated, empathic, quality driven, and patient focused standard of care for all patients.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining educational activities and standards consistent with regulatory, licensing and accrediting standards, MLH mission, and strategic priorities.
  • Leads the APP team in providing patient care and supportive services directed towards achievement of positive patient care outcomes, maximizing the patient/s involvement in his or her own plan of care, reducing the length of hospitalization, and decreasing costs.

Clinical Practice

  • Provides direct, specialized, comprehensive patient care: participates in the development, implementation and evaluation, and directly implements aspects of care based on medical directives.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge and synthesis of advanced nursing practice within the clinical specialty.
  • Assesses complex practice issues and develops, implements and evaluates innovative approaches and programs addressing these issues.
  • Acts as a role model and clinical expert in the clinical specialty.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Exposure to excessive heat or cold as required.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
  • May require handling or administering of narcotics.
  • Ability to read and write to communicate orally and in writing with other individuals.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. without assistance and push and pull up to 250 lbs.
  • Ability to sit in one place, stand, walk, squat, kneel, reach, twist, crawl, and bend.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motion, as well as using hands for gripping and squeezing.
  • Ability to use hands and feet together for repetitive coordinated motions.
