Summary

The Invasive Cardio Tech II/Internal Agency is a 26 week temporary full time assignment working on various units.

Under direct supervision, performs work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to perform procedures on patients undergoing cardiac diagnostic, Cardiac interventional, or Electrophysiology procedures.  Provides technical support in the diagnosis and treatment of heart and vascular disease. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.
 

Education/Experience/Licensure

Graduate of formal program in: Work Experience Credential/Licensure
Respiratory Therapy Minimum of one (1) year Cath Lab work experience
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist license in state of employment
  • Effective June 1, 2018: New Hires and Transfers are required to have current BLS Certification.
  • ACLS or PALS required within 6 months
Respiratory Therapy Minimum of two (2) year’s Cath Lab work experience
  • Ceritifed Respiratory Therapist license in state of employment
  • Effective June 1, 2018: New Hires and Transfers are required to have current BLS Certification.
  • ACLS or PALS required within 6 months
Cardiovascular Technology (CVT)

Minimum of one year of Cath Lab work experience

Or

In lieu of graduating from formal program in Cardiovascular Technology, must have seven years of cath lab work experience.
  • RCIS or RCES certification required OR must have RCIS or RCES certification within 12 months after date of hire.
  • Effective June 1, 2018: New Hires and Transfers are required to have current BLS Certification.
  • ACLS or PALS required within 6 months
Surgical Technology Minimum of two (2) year’s Cath Lab work experience
  • CST, CSFA or RCIS
  • Effective June 1, 2018: New Hires and Transfers are required to have current BLS Certification.
  • ACLS or PALS required within 6 months

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Proficient and certified in basic and advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) or pediatric advanced life support (PALS) if working with children is preferred, OR certification must be completed within 6 months of hire.
  • Sound technical knowledge of cath lab or electrophysiology lab concepts, practices, and procedures.  Meets required clinical competencies according to validation methods.
  • Ability to effectively relate and communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of workflow.
     

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Under general direction, assists physician/surgeon during cardiovascular diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Must be available for on-call if required in designated area and respond within the designated time frame for emergency procedures.
  • Performs a variety of testing to assist with diagnosis and treatment.
  • Documents care delivered in the patient’s medical record in accordance with policy and procedure for the department.
  • Responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, compliance activities, and policies and procedures.
  • Provides support in the preparation, care, maintenance, and availability of cath lab or electrophysiology lab supplies and equipment.  Troubleshoots various systems and devices.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
     

Physical Requirements

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: heavy work - exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 50 lbs. of force frequently.
  • Will be required to wear lead apron for extended periods of time.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
