Summary

Responsible for leading, developing, and directing a comprehensive social work program designed to meet the needs of children and their families.  Directs the activities of clinical social work and counselor staff.  Responsible for overall program development and direction as well as day-to-day operations.  Represents the social work program in the community and ensures working relationships among community agencies and organizations.  Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

Master's degree in Social Work.

Minimum of five years of experience in social work management.

Licensed Master’s Social Worker (LMSW) in the State of Tennessee.

  • Demonstrated experience and capability to lead implementation of the social work program with specific emphasis on children's health, child abuse and neglect.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse community constituencies to create a common agenda for success related to child abuse and neglect.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft applications and experience with database systems.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise appropriate action and good business judgement.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorites, organize tasks, and maintain control of work flow.
  • Ability to evaluate abstract medical data and effectively analyze the data, identify problems, and make recommendations.
  • Requires an exceptional communicator to effectively collaborate with all levels of Associates, management, physicians, patients and their familities.
  • Ability to lead and motivate individuals and groups toward the accomplishment of assigned tasks and organizational goals.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Leads, develops, and directs a comprehensive social work program designed to assess and treat the psychosocial needs of children and their families. Plans scope and emphasis of social services program for inpatient and outpatient pediatric care.
  • Oversees day-to-day operations and administration of the hospital clinical social work program and community based child assessment program, including development and management of annual budgets and financial resources.
  • Participates in strategic planning and public policy development for child maltreatment.  Ensures coordination, collaboration, and communication among community agencies, services, and programs to establish standards for children's health and maltreatment for the purpose of improving community response to child maltreatment.
  • Promotes the program in the community as a mechanism to improve children’s health, provide a healthier community, and enhance the response to treatment, investigation, study, and prevention of child abuse and neglect.  Serves as primary point of community contact for outreach and education.
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, JCAHO and other applicable regulatory standards and practices.
  • Manages and maintains a competent, productive, and quality staff.  Motivates, develops, and directs associates in the department; conducts performance evaluations and disciplinary actions; participates in the recruitment and hiring of new associates; serves as resource for enhancement of professional competency.

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
