Title:  Director, Linen Services Job

Summary

Responsible for planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and controlling Linen Services in a manner that achieves service excellence, operational excellence and financial performance excellence.  Directs Associates engaged in receiving, marking, washing, and ironing uniforms or linen or in laundry; determines schedule through laundry to provide quick and efficient services.  Inspects finished laundered articles to ensure conformance to standards.  Analyzes department budget to identify budget needs and or reductions, and may allocate operating budgets funds.  Interprets company policy to Associates and enforces safety regulations.  Observes operation of machines and equipment to detect possible malfunctions.  Studies literature of launderers, cleaners associations, and confers vendors to obtain information on new or improved work methods and equipment. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Business Management, or related field.

Three (3) years of experience in a management and/or supervisory role.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Ensures Linen Services achieves service excellence through a focus on Associate satisfaction and customer satisfaction with linen and laundry services.
  • Plans, organizes, implements and controls Linen Services operations to meet departmental goals and objectives while directing, coordinating, and developing policies and procedures for the department.  Directs department-based quality monitoring and evaluation activities, and implements measures to ensure that hospital, DNV, OSHA and other regulatory standards are met.
  • Establishes and maintains Linen Services key performance indicators which, at minimum, establish the timely and effective management of service excellence, operational excellence and financial performance excellence.
  • Hires, develops and retains a competent, productive, quality-conscious and customer-satisfaction-oriented work staff.  Develops and implements processes through orientation, training and education to ensure that the competence of all staff members is assessed, maintained, improved and demonstrated throughout their employment.  May recommend or initiate promotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions.
  • Promotes, maintains, demonstrates and communicates the value of self-development and enhancement of staff competency through continuous improvement activities and other educational opportunities.
  • Prepares an annual expense budget, capital budget request and Human Resources utilization plan for Laundry Operations.
  • Communicates a clear vision of organizational values and expectations while encouraging an environment of Associate satisfaction, involvement, creativity, and commitment to quality.

Physical Requirements

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
