Summary

The Child Life Activity Coordinator plans and coordinates a variety of therapeutic activities and interventions designed to reduce the stress and anxiety accompanying hospitalization and other healthcare encounters. Coordinates the receipt, storage, and distribution of in-kind donations. Plans, maintains, and provides programming for the child life programmatic programs. Provides support to various patient and family-centered care programs to enhance patient experience and outcomes. This is an entry-level role giving the qualified candidate a great opportunity for growth within the Child Life Dept.  Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree in child development or closely related field

0-1 year experience working with children

 

Current AHA “Heartsaver” Certification.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Provides developmentally appropriate play opportunities for pediatric patients and their sibilings. Participates in daily activities of therapeutic play and emotional support of patients/sibilings according to their needs, capabilities and interests.
  • Plans and implements therapeutic programs designed to meet the developmental, physical, emotional and social needs of pediatric patients. Plans activities and events to promote a child friendly environment that supports growth and development.
  • Provides and maintains age appropriate supplies in compliance with safety and infection prevention policies. Assists inventory control and storage of hospital based supplies. Follows guidelines regarding toy cleaning and environment of care.
  • Manages in-kind donation stewardship process to best serve patient/family needs. Supports the distribution and maintenance of toys and equipment. Assures materials are clean and in good repair. Organizes and maintains inventory of Child Life storage areas.
  • Collaborates with a interdisciplinary team to prioritize patient needs. Communicates observations and pertinent information to appropriate team members to support continuity of care. Make appropriare referrals when needs are beyond scope of the role.
  • Provides support of various family engagement programs, such as Sibiling Playroom, Parental Presence during Induction etc. as necessary.

Physical Requirements

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
