Summary

The physician assistant/nurse practitioner  practices medicine under the supervision of a physician.  They will provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services, as delegated by a physician.  Working as members of the health care team, they take medical histories, examine and treat patients, order and interpret laboratory tests and x-rays and make diagnoses.  They may also treat minor injuries, by suturing, splinting and casting.  They will record progress notes, instruct and counsel patients, order and carry out therapies and update charts.  May, if eligible, prescribe some medications.  When working in a surgical arena, may provide preoperative and postoperative care and possibly work as first or second assistants during major surgeries. This clinician will assist Cardiovascular Surgeons and need to be able to perform vein harvesting and also have CVICU experience.

REQUIRED:

Must have completed an accredited, formal education program.

 

One to two years of Physician Assistant /Nurse Practitioner experience

 

Must have passed a National exam such as the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination, administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and be currently licensed by the state.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.

  • Frequent handling or administering of narcotics.
  • Ability to read and write to communicate orally and in writing with other individuals.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. without assistance and push and pull up to 250 lbs.
  • Ability to sit in one place, stand, walk, squat, kneel, reach, twist, crawl, and bend throughout the shift.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
