Summary

The Laundry Technician is responsible for performing production functions in the Laundry Services Department, including shipping and receiving, handling soiled linen, operating washers, extractors and tumblers, sorting and folding of hospital laundry, ironing and pressing, packing and loading onto trucks.  Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Ability to read and write to follow written instructions and communicate with other departments.
  • Ability to perform specialized duties acquired during on-the-job training.
  • Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise initiative and independent judgment once technical training has been completed.
  • Ability to work around heavy equipment and to be alert to keeping the equipment in good working condition.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in a hot and humid area around steam and other hot and heavy equipment wearing barrier gown, mask, and gloves.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
  • The physical activities of this position may include bending, twisting, climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.  Ability to stand and walk for up to 8 hours.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: heavy work – lift and carry up to 50 lbs and push and pull up to 700 lbs.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity and color vision to perform an activity, such as sorting laundry items.
  • The Associate may be required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned (i.e., custodial, food services, general laborer, etc.) or to make general observations of facilities or structures (i.e., security guard, inspection, etc.).
