Summary

The Anesthesia Tech provides support services to anesthesiologists and registered nurses in the preparation, care, maintenance, and availability of anesthesia supplies and equipment.  Participates in OR room turnover and performs activities as directed to ensure efficiency and safe patient care in the OR environment. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

REQUIRED:

High School diploma or equivalent

Minimum of one year experience in a healthcare-related setting.

BLS Healthcare Provider

 

PREFERRED:

Completion of a formal job-related vocational or technical training program of not less than one year (such as Anesthesia Technology, Surgical Technology, EMT, LPN, etc.)

Minimum of two years experience as a Anesthesia Techician.

Certification as an Anesthesia Tech (Cer.A.T.) through ASATT

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of OR supplies and equipment, preferably in anesthesia.
  • Ability to set-up and calibrate anesthesia equipment and instrumentation.
  • Demonstrates competency required to operate anesthesia related equipment and supplies and perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Understands the principles and procedures related to infection control and aseptic technique.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with co-workers, physicians and other outside professional staff.
  • Ability to organize tasks and maintain control of work flow.
     

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Provides support to anesthesiologists and registered nurses in the preparation, care, maintenance, and availability of anesthesia supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains a sterile field for anesthesia services.  Ensures adherence to the sterile field by applying principles of aseptic techniques.
  • Responsible for monitoring and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, quality standards, compliance activities, and policies and procedures.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.

Physical Requirements

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
