Summary

The Advanced Practice Nurse/Nurse Practitioner is responsible for planning and directing the delivery of primary health care and health education programs at the Minor Med Centers.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Proficiency in applying advanced concepts, principles, and professional techniques in a specialized field of nursing.  Such proficiency is acquired through completion of a master’s degree or higher in a nursing specialty and is demonstrated through national specialty certification as a nurse practitioner.
  • Demonstrated skills in leadership and teaching as acquired through experience in a community based clinic .

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Assesses, diagnoses, and treats patients in the assigned center according to approved protocol and acceptable standards..
  • Performs necessary diagnostic and therapeutic procedures according to written, approved protocols developed with and under the supervision of the Medical Director/collaborating physician.  Participates in the design and revision of protocols.
  • Collaborates with Medical Physician and ancillary personnel as appropriate to promote quality care for patients.  Makes referrals as appropriate.
  • Recognizes and reacts appropriately to environmental safety factors related to patient care.  Understands, applies, and supports practice policies, procedures, goals and standards.
  • Develops strong partnerships with patients, family members, fellow physicians/nurses and support staff.  Focuses on high patient and family satisfaction and retention. 

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent invasive and non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Exposure to excessive heat or cold as required.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
  • May require handling or administering of narcotics.
  • Ability to read and write to communicate orally and in writing with other individuals.
  • Ability to sit in one place, stand, walk, squat, kneel, reach, twist, crawl, and bend.
  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motion, as well as using hands for gripping and squeezing.
  • Ability to use hands and feet together for repetitive coordinated motions.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.

REQUIRED:

Completion of a master’s degree or higher in a nursing specialty from an accredited program

 

Must have at least three (3) years’ of general nursing experience of clinical practice at the RN level.

 

Advanced practice licensure/ certification as required by the State of employment.

 

Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of employment.

 

Effective June 1, 2018: All new hires and transfers are required to have BLS certification.

 

 

Current DEA number (if required by facility).
