Summary
The VP/CNO II is responsible for leading, planning, organizing and directing the overall operations of Nursing Services for the assigned facility. Has accountability for developing and implementing standards of nursing practice to ensure delivery of quality patient care standards. Assists in formulating the budget and maintains efficient and effective departmental operations and required compliance with all state, federal, and local regulations laws, standards, and protocols. Collaborates on development and implementation of system-wide nursing initiatives. VP/CNO II is based on the overall characteristics of the assigned facility (Net Revenue, FTEs, complexity). Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

REQUIRED: |
Master’s degree or higher in Nursing OR Masters degree in Healthcare Administration or Business (MHA or MBA) AND Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) |
Extensive clinical nursing and management experience with a minimum of seven (7) years’ in a nursing leadership role. |
Registered Nurse with license to practice in the state where work is performed, or compact license. |

- Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of nursing and hospital administration. Extensive experience working with physicians and clinicians.
- Maintains knowledge of current trends and issues in nursing and the healthcare industry, evidence based practice, and state and federal compliance and regulatory standards.
- Knowledge of nursing staffing methods, retention, recruitment, and finance.
- Proven strategic-thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills.

Key Job Responsibilities
Nursing Practice:
- As a member of the Hospital's senior management team, the CNO will partcipate in functional and operational decision-making processes necessary to the successful attainment of the hospital's mission in addition to leading nursing strategies that impact the success of the hospital.
- Responsible for ensuring that nursing care is delivered within the framework of evidence-based practice throughout the facility, and for understanding existing and emerging requirements in healthcare quality, safety, patient care service/experience, and operational improvements.
- Leads, develops, and executes clinical nursing programs through the delivery of cost effective and quality services.
- In collaboration with the SVP/Chief Nursing Executive and facility CNOs, as well as other leaders, physicians, and health care professionals, leads the strategic direction, executive and clinical leadership, planning, innovation, and resource management for all aspects of nursing practice at the assigned facility.
- Active participant in system nursing initiatives, including shared governance, nurse residency program, safety and quality, and system committees.
- Responsible for developing a reputation for nursing excellence to provide exceptional care and service for an enhanced patient and family experience.
- Ensures that all professional standards of practice and scope of services are aligned with MLH staffing and work assignments.
- Ensures continued readiness regarding regulatory and accrediting body standards. Leads implementation of clinical standardization initiatives for the assigned facility.
- Maintains continuing quality assessment and improvement analysis and evaluation of patient care delivery.
- Plans and recommends new facilities or equipment, or modification thereto, needed to provide patient care.
- Monitors, analyzes, and reports on healthcare industry trends, formulates environmental assessments, and makes recommendations for program and patient care needs.

- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
- Position requires frequent travel outside of primary work site.
