Summary

You will serve as a support resource to patients, families and guests, unit nursing staff, allied health departments, and medical staff, by assisting the unit clinical leadership with coordination of patient care services through providing information and directions, securing assistance and resources, and troubleshooting initial customer service concerns. You will facilitate the electronic storage and retrieval of patient records and orders by acting as a resource to physicians. You will do this in a manner which reflects the vision, mission, and philosophy of nursing and Methodist Le Bonheur Healthcare. You, as Unit Coordinator, are expected to provide exceptional customer service and model appropriate behavior as exemplified in our MLH Mission, Vision, and Values.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • It is preferred that you have a working knowledge of medical terminology.
  • You must maintain compliance with healthcare information privacy and security regulations (HIPAA).
    • You should have or quickly acquire working knowledge of computer data entry/retrieval skills (MS Office Suite) and electronic medical record systems.
    • You should have general knowledge of computer and peripheral operation for troubleshooting wireless device connectivity, launching/login changes, charging equipment, equipment storage, network logins, online help desk tickets, and intranet site utilization. 
    • You must have strong customer service skills, delivering exceptional service to improve every life you touch.
    • You must have the ability to use basic office equipment and multi-line phones.
    • You must have good data entry skills and legible handwriting.
    • You must have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to effectively and cordially communicate with a range of highly skilled medical professionals, patients, and visitors.
    • You must maintain attention to detail and be able to think through routine to moderately complex situations.
    • You must maintain confidentiality of personal and sensitive data. 

 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • You will provide support through exceptional customer service to patients, Partners in Care, and families and other guests. You will be proactive in order to provide information, comfort, and support to patients and their loved ones. You will also quickly respond to concerns, needs, and questions, by ensuring that you provide accurate and effective communication. 
  • You will support the timely and accurate use of all medical record forms and documentation of information. 
  • You will process orders. 
  • You will assist with the coordination of Patient Care Services.
  • You will provide support for online tools. 
  • You will provide support to unit operations.  

Physical Requirements

  • You will likely perform the following physical activities while in this postion: climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • You must have good balance and coordination.
  • You will be required to do medium work, exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • You will be required to have close visual acuity, including color, depth perception, and field of vision, to assess patients, prepare and analyze data and figures, transcribe, view a computer terminal, or extensively read.
  • You will be exposed to patient body fluids, as well as hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • You must have the ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
