Responsible for the clinical supervision in the pediatric social work program.  Supervises the activities of assigned Social Work staff.  Performs direct patient care duties of the Medical Social Worker.  Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values. 

Position is considered a "working" supervisor with an OPC assignment in addition to supervising direct reports.



Education/Formal Training

Work Experience





Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited program.


Minimum of five years’ of professional practice (includes Social Work internships); work experience in healthcare preferred.

Licensed as a Master Social Worker by the state in which work is performed.





Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Advanced Practice Social Worker (LAPSW) preferred.

Key Job Responsibilities


  • Hires, supervises, orients, and on-boards medical social workers and assigned staff, providing consultation and supervision to staff to ensure successful program operation.
  • Evaluates performance and conducts annual formal evaluation of assigned associates.
  • Completes corrective action as needed in consultation with HR staff
  • Provides direction and assistance to Medical Social Workers related to patient cases, community resources, problem solving, and strategies through regularly scheduled meetings.
  • Oversees and guides effective documentation and reporting.
  • Collaborates with Social Work management team to develop policies and procedures, and enacts a plan to monitor compliance for those policies and procedures.
  • Contributes to program growth and development, including activities to ensure continuous quality improvement.



  • Demonstrates values and standards of the social work profession.
  • Conducts psychosocial assessments of patients and families and develops plans to address needs.
  • Provides direct interventions to patients and their family/caregivers to address their emotional, social and environmental needs.
  • Advocates for the safe discharge of patient to home or community resource, and supports preventive and follow-up care post discharge.
  • Provides resources, education, and materials to assist patients and families.

Physical Requirements

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work
