Summary
Under the general supervision of a licensed physician, the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders involving polysomnography diagnostic and therapeutic services. Monitors and records physiologic data using various techniques, equipment, and procedures. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Demonstrates competency in performing polysomnographic procedures, including knowledge of event characteristics (e.g., respiratory, cardiac, sleep stage, seizures, etc.) and ability to take appropriate action.
- Ability to summarize and report polysomnographic data in narrative form.
- Basic computer operations skills including use of Windows operating system.
- Positive interpersonal skills with patients, their families, physicians, department staff and other members of hospital staff.
- Ability to work without close supervision and to exercise independent judgment in a professional area.
- Ability to organize multiple tasks and projects and maintain control of own and others’ work flow.
Key Job Responsibilities
- Performs polysomnographic procedures on patients under the general supervision of the physician (or designee) to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders.
- Gathers and analyzes patient information.
- Performs test preparation procedures.
- Performs polysomnographic record scoring.
- Demonstrates professional work behavior and excellent customer service routinely in all interactions.
- Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
Physical Requirements
- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- Frequent non-invasive patient contact.
- Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
