Responsible for applying various types of traction and delivery of orthopedic equipment and supplies, as well as maintaining an acceptable inventory level and budgetary constraints of orthopedic supplies and equipment.  Responsible for assisting with personal care of patients.  Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in The Methodist Mission, Vision and Values.



Education/Formal Training

Work Experience






High school graduate or GED equivalent.

Must have at least one (1) year of experience working in a patient care environment.





Prior experience as a Medical Attendant or Nursing Assistant (Nursing Medical Assistant).








  • Knowledge of all orthopedic instrumentation, equipment, hardware, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of orthopedic technology principles standards and applications.
  • Knowledge of common safety measures and precautions to maintain a safe environment.
  • Demonstrates compassion and patience with a deep level of concern for patients.
  • Ability to read, write and understand verbal or written instructions.
  • Ability to foster and maintain good working relationships with internal and external customers including but not limited to supervisors, managers, other Associates and other departments/areas.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally with others.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times according to hospital policy and procedures and HIPAA requirements.
  • Ability to understand principles and implement basic procedures of infection control.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Offers assistance to patients, physicians and other customers.
  • Performs supply/equipment fitting, delivery, instruction, cleaning and maintenance in a timely manner.
  • Obtains and stores equipment/supplies and maintains a clean and orderly environment in work area.
  • Assists and/or provides patients with personal care, activities of daily living and other basic needs under the direct supervision of the Registered Nurse.
  • Adheres to and supports Units/Nursing/Hospital policies, procedures and standards.
  • Performs other job functions as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • Frequent non-invasive patient contact.
  • Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
  • Exposure to high levels of noise.
  • Ability to react quickly to emergency or critical situations.
