The Nursing Quality Data Manager manages design, development, maintenance, and analysis of analytic data repositories for planning, benchmarking, and system wide budget needs. Establishes and maintains automated/programmed workflows and data solutions to support timely analytics, report dissemination, and decision-making. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.



Education/Formal Training

Work Experience





Bachelor's degree in Healthcare administration or related field.


  • Minimum of three (3) years of work experience dealing with large data sets, designing and developing data extractions, analysis, and reporting tools/dashboards.
  • Prior experience with data visualization.





Master’s Degree in Healthcare administration or related field.

Healthcare experience preferred, working with multi-disciplinary teams.










  • Working knowledge of compiling national benchmarks, data management, data documentation, technical/clinical/analytical communication, project management, and process/workflows.
  • Working understanding of healthcare terminology, structure, and operations of health care organizations.
  • Proficient in Excel, Power point, and Minitab; preferred experience with Access, Redcap, Tableau, and Power Insight.
  • Must be capable of independent action, good business judgment, and the ability to work without close supervision.
  • Must have good oral and written communication skills and command of the English language.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and prepare complex written materials.
  • Ability to organize multiple priorities and tasks while maintaining workflow.
  • Demonstrated ability to display information persuasively in support of data-driven decision-making.
  • Ability to effectively translate/explain findings using graphical display of data or tables.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops data extractions, analysis, and reporting tools/dashboards for Quality, Performance Improvement, Safety, Patient Experience, Magnet Designation, and Regulatory initiatives.
  • Leads design, development, maintenance, and quality control of data structures, workflows and databases related to financial, demographic, and clinical data.
  • Develops, maintains, establishes vendor communications and submits databases, statistics, presentations, and reports for financial, productivity, budget, and clinical metrics.
  • Acts as a technical consultant and manages extractions, submission, maintenance, and quality control of National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators and Magnet submission metrics/data.  Develops and provides education to nursing leaders related to requirements and standard practices.
  • Acts as data liaison and resource for all facilities for national benchmarking, productivity and scheduling system, nurse staffing and finance consultant to the Chief Nurse Executive, Chief Nursing Officers, and Nursing Directors throughout the System.
  • Leads projects within multiple facilities to develop standardized processes and workflows.
  • Collaborates with other data resources including Human Resources, Process Improvement and Innovation, Facility Quality departments, and Finance.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities for self-development and enhancement of professional competency.
  • Performs other job functions as needed to fulfill department goals.

Physical Requirements

  • May have some travel between MLH facilities and potentially to annual conferences within the United States.
  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
