Summary

Monitors all aspects of a project, from initiation to closure, with direct accountability for project execution while guiding a project team, or teams, to accomplish specific objectives in a given time frame and budget with limited resources.  Responsible for taking a lead role in managing large, multi-disciplinary project teams to document project requirements, deliverables, timeline/schedule, status, and risks/issues for assigned projects and has ultimate accountability for project outcomes, including on-time, on-budget, high quality project delivery. Serves as a subject matter expert in MLH IT PMO project management methodology and consults with leaders throughout the organization to provide PM guidance and expertise. Collaborates with project stakeholders to ensure projects achieve desired results with respect to defined metrics and benefit measures. Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in The Methodist Mission, Vision and Values.

REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business management, healthcare administration or related field.

Must have minimum (7) years direct IT project management experience

Possess credential in Project Management Professional Certification (PMP).

 

PREFERRED:

Master’s degree in computer science, business management, healthcare administration, or related field.

Ten (10) years of direct

healthcare IT project management experience

Six Sigma/Lean Certification

ITIL Certification

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated expertise in Information Technology project management as evidenced by experience in supporting large, multi-disciplinary IT and/or healthcare IT projects.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in the management of people, processes, hardware, software, and other resources.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate with a large degree of independence.
  • Demonstrated ability to consistently apply analytical skills to identify problems and offer solutions.
  • Must exercise sound judgment and initiative in all circumstances, including very stressful situations.
  • Knowledge of establish project management methodologies: Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), including waterfall/software development life cycle (SDLC) and Agile, as evidenced by Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in technical and business writing, verbal, and presentation skills.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Serves as lead project manager on large, complex enterprise projects or as a program manager on multiple projects of moderate complexity involving multiple clinical and operational stakeholders. Organizes and leads large multi-disciplinary project teams to ensure defined project requirements, scope, and deliverables are met within established timeframes and budget.
  • Develops and maintains comprehensive project documentation, including the project charter, detailed project plan, issue and risk lists, executive dashboards, monthly status reports, and other project artifacts. Maintains comprehensive document archive for each assigned project and ensures all project team members and stakeholders have ready, convenient access to project-related documentation and data. Develops tools and templates to support the mission of the MLH IT PMO in providing a consistent, standardized, repeatable PM methodology that can be applied by IT Associates managing project independent of the PMO.
  • Monitors and controls project scope and objectives through full cycle implementations and ensures that scope remains in agreement with functionality and deliverables defined in the project charter. Collaborates closely with the project’s executive champion and physician champion to understand needs and requirements and to translate those into meaningful project objectives.
  • Leads project teams in defining benefit measures and metrics and in obtaining baseline measures to ensure that projects meets all expected outcomes in terms of quality, functionality, budget, etc.
  • Facilitates project team meetings and is responsible for project tracking and analysis. Highly comfortable and facile with presentations and communications across all levels of the organization.
  • Manages integration of vendor tasks and tracks and reviews vendor deliverables, if applicable. Serves as the key point of contact for the vendor throughout the project, and provides the vendors all required contacts, access, tools, etc., to meet defined deliverables as outlined in the project charter, statement of work, and contract/service agreement.
  • Leverages a variety of project management tools, including the Project Management Information System, SharePoint, MS Office, and MS Project, and approve MLH Project Management Office (PMO) templates. Assists in developing PM tools and methodologies to ensure continuous improvement of project management processes and methodologies.
  • Collaborates with peers, colleagues, and stakeholders throughout the enterprise by providing subject matter expertise in IT project management methodologies and MLH IT PMO processes and guidelines.

Physical Requirements

  • Subject to call back at all times: Responds as required or requested on a 7/24 on-call basis to support the organization, particularly

during project execution/go-live.

  • Subject to travel to other cities via airline or other commercial conveyances for training or other activities.
  • Must provide own transportation to any Methodist operating unit to facilitate meetings or provide project support.
  • Subject to standard office working conditions with intermittent exposure to noisy computer equipment.
  • Required to sit for extended periods.
  • Will often experience stressful working conditions due to tight schedules and limited resources.
  • Must have normal or corrected-to-normal vision and hearing.
  • Ability to understand complex verbal and written communications and respond verbally and in writing as appropriate. Typical mediums

of communication include face-to-face dialog, telephone, and electronic mail.
