Responsible for building and directing the biostatistics team and overseeing all statistical services provided by the CFRI. Accountable for study designs, power calculations, protocol development, analyses and publication strategy for both preclinical and clinical trials. Drives process improvements and implement MLH and CFRI goals and objectives.  Models appropriate behavior as exemplified in MLH Mission, Vision and Values.



  • PhD in Biostatistics
  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience in Biostatistics


  • Master's degree and five (5) years of experience in biostatistics mathematics in lieu of educational and experience requirements.


  • Strong working knowledge of statistical concepts and applications using standard statistical software.
  • Ability to understand, prepare and present complex written materials, such as grants proposals.
  • Ability to create graphics in R and/or SAS and formulate solutions utilizing strong analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of associates, management, physicians, outside sponsors and agencies.
  • Ability to effectively organize and manage multiple assignments with challenging timelines while maintaining high standards.
  • Demonstrates the ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative research and to analyze data in order to produce publications.
  • Expert ability working with large databases, data verification and data management.
  • Ability to lead, motivate and maintain relationships with individuals and groups of people toward accomplishment of work and organizational goals.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Provides statistical direction to staff and researchers for study design, power calculations, protocol development, analyses and publication strategy for both preclinical and clinical trials as well as nursing research.
  • Ensures accountability to the highest level of clinical care and research standards. Creates policy, practice, and provides oversight for managing data, specifically biostatistics data.
  • Develops biostatistics training to teach nurses, fellows, junior investigators, CFRI and other stakeholders.
  • Interprets and translates clinical and research data for research stakeholders in order to ensure excellent study design.
  • Oversees department administrative support to ensure CFRI associates have resources needed to accomplish the mission and vision of CFRI.

Physical Requirements

  • The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
  • Must have good balance and coordination.
  • The physical requirements of this position are: light work - exerting up to 25 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently.
  • The Associate is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity, such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
  • The conditions to which the Associate will be subject in this position: The Associate is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions; job functions are typically performed under conditions such as those found in general office or administrative work.
